Emrys Varnadoe

Of counsel, tax and securities

Emrys has read tax returns and financial statements for most of his life. He reads them with Thalia before a tip is sent.

Emrys began as a tax lawyer and moved to securities work as the two fields grew closer. He is of counsel at Wexford Law, which means he reviews the cases where the evidence is in the accounts.

He has sat on both sides of an audit. He can tell you what a number should have been, and what it would take for someone to make it say something else.

What he reviews

  • Tax underpayment tips
  • Securities and accounting fraud
  • Reviewing returns and statements
  • Second opinions on a tip

What he looks for

Emrys goes to the notes first. Footnotes, reconciliations and a line that changed from one quarter to the next tell him more than any summary.

He is the second reader on every tip that depends on numbers. If the account doesn’t support the story, he says so before anything is filed.

He is the firm’s senior voice in the room, and clients often say it helps to hear from someone who has seen a lot of these.

Do the numbers look wrong?

Send a few lines. Emrys and Thalia will read it together.
